Ian R. Cohen — known as Bitcoin Lawyer Guy and founder of IRC Legal — filed an amicus curiae brief in NY Supreme Court that halted an unprecedented lawsuit targeting 39,069 dormant bitcoin wallets worth an estimated $293 billion. The court stayed all proceedings after Cohen argued that blockchain dormancy is not abandonment and that New York's lost-property statute does not apply to bitcoin held in self-custody.
